amy? >> ouch. this is the 32nd day of increases including hurricane sandy to switching from the gas we use in the winter to summer gas. it is all coming together to mean bad news for drivers. as of this morning in san francisco you are paying $4.13 up from $3.67 a month ago. check out oakland, you are also up over $4 a gallon and the same situation in san jose a big jump all over the bay area. there are a number of problems that have driven up the price, the recession in europe is not helping. energy futures are reflecting those concerns. unexpected maintenance going on at refineries. and hurricane sandy caused operational problems in the northeast. we have to switch from winter grid to summer grade and that also costs money.

we know we have it here in the bay area. we have it tough but maybe you will feel better. it is worse in los angeles. some gas stations there are charging more than $5 a gallon. maybe that will ease the pain this morning. >> developing news from san jose where police are investigating a chase that ended in the death of a suspect. police say at the state of the chase the driver tried to run down an officer. the crash ended in south san jose. investigators are still there going over the scene and they say it started in the capital expressway area in towers lane where the driver of a dark s.u.v. tried to run over an officer. the officer chased the car to monterey road and it went down an embankment. the drive was killed. two female passengers are expected to survive.

>> san francisco fire investigators hope to know what caused a suspicious trier at a treasure island apartment complex that took the life of a 10-year old girl who was trapped in an upper story bedroom. she attended john muir elementary school. everyone except the ten-year-old made it out. neighbors tried to rescue her after hearing her cries. last night mounters gathered to remember her and to support her grieving family. >> san francisco muni is investigating a fatal accident involving a bus and a pedestrian. a 72-year-old died after being struck on saturday afternoon in daly city in the crosswalk when the back end of the bus hit her. the driver has taken standard alcohol tests and drug tests and is on leave during the investigation. >> in mill valley a search is underway for two man who shot at

a security guard after stealing beer from a grocery store yesterday morning at 3:00 a.m. the thieves fired four or five shots at the guard and got away in a gold minivan with license plate on your screen, 4dwzy. >> two san francisco police officers are recovering from injuries they suffered trying to break up a number of fights in north beach. it happened yesterday morning on broadway suffering minor injuries and treated at a local hospital. two people have been arrested for assaulting the officers. >> a group of nudists face charges after revealing protests in the castro district and a few dozen protested the law at castro and market yesterday and targeted supervisor the scott who wrote the antinudity law and represents the castro of city hall. ed nudist feels this violates

officials plan to use federal emergency money to pay for the clean up. >> california's effort to recover the cost of fighting wildfires from those who start them is under criticism. for a decade the state has been aggressively going after businesses and individuals blamed for starting fires. now the governor wants to double the employees working for the recovery program. since 2008 they have helped the state get $95 million. critics say the state is charging too much and needs to justify the amount of the charges. >> if you look for a job, a survey says many high-tech companies could be more interested in looking at your tweets than your resume. over to kristen and eric. >> more traffic news. a south bay intersection has been partly shut down this morning after a police chase that resulted in a fatal crash. we are live along blossom hill road with the latest. what is going on? >> westbound blossom hill road is closed if you look because they are digging out and now towing this crashed stolen s.u.v. following a deadly chase that ended with a 21-year-old hispanic male dead. this started five miles away after 11:00 last night. a san jose police officer was making a traffic storm at capital expressway and a driver in another car unrelated to the stop for some reason tried to run over the police officer. he chased the suspect. at points in the chase the fleeing suspect turned on his

headlights and tried to lose multiple patrol cars that were then chasing him about four separate patrol cars were chasing him. he ended up going the wrong way on blossom hill road and crash down a ravine and landed below the overpass on monterey road. >> officers went down. we could not find the driver and he was ejected from the vehicle but we made contact with him, took him into custody, he was conscious and breathing at the time of contact and fire was immediately on the scene and they tended to him and he stopped breathing and died on 9 ravine at the scene. >> police are only describing the man as hispanic at 20 years old. this video is from 30 minutes ago before the s.u.v. was towed, police say they caught two female juveniles trying to escape the crashed stolen s.u.v. and they are now in custody. police are still interviewing

the fire. >> san francisco fire investigators hope to know by tomorrow the cause of a fire on treasure island on saturday that took the life of a little girl. they calling it "suspicious." the ten-year-old girl died in the fire that tore through six apartments on saturday morning. she was in 4th grade in san francisco. the cell phone video showed six people in the apartment at the time and everyone made it out but for the girl. she was trapped in an upstairs bedroom. >> all i think about, i heard her cry and i heard her crying and saying ouch and i knew she was gone. i few she left. >> a neighbor tried to get to the girl but was forced pack by the raging fire and smoke. mourners gathered to remember her and to support her family. >> san francisco police are warning women in the mission district about a man who could
